We are looking for an R&D Engineer or R&D Senior Engineer at ABB Oy.

In this position, you will be working in the Azipod® R&D department. Based on your background and experience, you will either be leading dedicated Azipod® R&D mechanical development initiatives or be responsible for the mechanical design related to these initiatives.

Azipod® propulsion is a gearless steerable propulsion system where the electric drive motor is in a submerged pod outside the ship hull. Azipod® units can rotate 360 degrees to increase maneuverability and operating efficiency. This role is contributing to the Marine and Ports division in Vuosaari, Helsinki

Based on your background and experience, you will either work as an R&D Engineer or an R&D Senior Engineer.

As R&D Senior Engineer, you will be mainly accountable for:
– Leading development of dedicated Azipod technology R&D initiatives from concepting to comple-tion, ensuring adherence to timelines, budget, and quality standards
– Analyzing and evaluating the performance of different designs through testing, data analysis, and simulations
– Creating and reviewing technical documentation, including creating of technical reports, specifi-cations, and design documentation
– Co-operation with classification societies
– Ensuring on-time operative technical support for different stakeholders
– Communicating with suppliers and customers
– Active prioritization and coordination of parallel tasks with different stakeholders
– Occasional traveling is required, to meet customers and suppliers

As R&D Engineer, you will be mainly accountable for:
– Mechanical design in dedicated Azipod technology R&D initiatives from concepting to completion as a team member
– Creating technical documentation, including creating of technical reports, specifications, and de-sign documentation
– Active prioritization and coordination of parallel tasks with different stakeholders
– Working in close co-operation with other mechanical, electrical and software specialists
– Occasional traveling is required, to meet customers and suppliers

Qualifications for the role:
– Qualifications for R&D Senior Engineer
– Having an organized way of working and willingness to take responsibility is essential
– You are self-driven and motivated by challenges
– Ability to demonstrate your experience in CAD software, PDM systems and other engineering tools for design and analysis is essential
– A collaborative, solutions-oriented approach with strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to different audiences
– It is essential that you are at ease communicating in English
– You have ability to work both independently and as part of a team
– A strong focus on safe work practices and dedication to following workplace safety guidelines is a must
– B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in mechanical engineering and at least a few years of relevant work experience from machine industry

Qualifications for R&D Engineer:
– Having an organized way of working and willingness to take responsibility is essential
– You are self-driven and motivated by challenges
– Ability to demonstrate your experience in CAD software and PDM systems is essential. Ideally, you have experience of NX and Teamcenter softwares
– Established skills to read and prepare mechanical manufacturing drawings is a must
– A collaborative, solutions-oriented approach with strong communication skills
– It is essential that you are at ease communicating in English
– B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in mechanical engineering
